What changed for the Sora 2 API?
OpenAI’s deprecation table lists September 24, 2026 as the shutdown date for the Videos API, sora-2, sora-2-pro and their listed snapshots. That date has passed at this September 27 review. The recommended-replacement column contains a dash: OpenAI currently names no recommended replacement there. This is a migration and alternatives guide, not an announcement of a successor or a live PromptToVisual video service.
Is an alternative a drop-in OpenAI replacement?
No compatibility is established by a similar output type. A replacement can have different authentication, media uploads, job states, polling, download expiry, moderation, billing and input rights. Separate your required behavior from your old request shape. An OpenAI-compatible text interface does not by itself make a video API compatible. PromptToVisual has not implemented or tested these migrations.
Start with an inventory of the workflow you must preserve
List whether each job begins with text, a first frame, several reference assets or an existing clip. Record required duration, output shape, sound, resolution, editing and delivery format. Keep the old input and settings if already available. Decide what must remain recognizable and which errors make an output unusable before comparing candidate systems. Do not assume retired-service files remain downloadable.
Candidate: Seedance 2.5 for reference-led scenes
Dreamina advertises 30-second standard scenes, multimodal reference inputs and local editing. It is a candidate to investigate when references and scene revision matter. Dreamina product access and a third-party Seedance API are separate contracts; confirm the provider route before planning an API replacement. Candidate: FLUX 3 Video for an explicit multi-mode API
BFL documents text-to-video, keyframe-led image-to-video and continuation through flux-3-video, with audio and drafts. Investigate its mode-specific payloads if your integration needs those operations. The linked FLUX guide explains duration, delivery resolution and API pricing. This is not an OpenAI-recommended replacement or a claim that it is the quality winner.
Candidate: Grok Imagine Video 1.5
xAI’s official announcement describes video with audio and image-to-video availability in the API. Check the grok-imagine-video-1.5 model documentation and your required input mode before selecting it. This is a separate xAI service; the Grok image model available in PromptToVisual does not give you Grok video access.
Compare contracts before comparing aesthetics
For each candidate, write down the accepted input, requested and delivered duration, audio behavior, returned dimensions, provider price unit, retry policy and retention terms. Missing information should remain unknown rather than becoming a zero cost or an assumed feature. This bounded shortlist includes only the sources verified here; it is not an exhaustive market ranking.
Validate with a small acceptance set when you authorize testing
As an editorial migration method, keep a few representative prompts and licensed assets fixed. Evaluate subject identity, motion, framing, sound and usable download separately. Record failed requests as well as attractive results. Test timeout recovery and duplicate submission handling before shifting customer work. No videos or benchmarks were generated for this guide.
What can I do on PromptToVisual now?
Video generation remains OFF. Read the linked provider sources to evaluate an external migration, or use our existing image studio and local crop tools to prepare still references. That preparation is not video delivery and does not restore Sora API access. There is no video checkout, replacement subscription or promised activation date on this page.
