How to make a meme

Can I make a meme without a bottom caption?
Yes. Either caption can be left empty. Leave the top or bottom field blank to show only the other caption.
Why use a black outline around white text?
The outline helps separate lettering from the photo. It does not guarantee contrast on every image, so inspect faces, busy backgrounds and small text before downloading.
Can I change the captions after downloading?
The export is a flat image, not an editable project. You can change the fields while this page remains open, but keep the original photo and caption text if you want to recreate it later.
How do I write captions that fit this layout?
Use the top caption to set up the idea and the bottom caption for the response, or leave either field empty for a simpler result. Each field supports up to one hundred characters, but the limit is not a recommendation to fill every available character. Longer wording shrinks to fit and may be difficult to read in a small feed preview. Try cutting unnecessary words before raising the text-size slider. This tool does not generate jokes, suggest captions or rewrite your text; the wording comes directly from the fields you enter.
Can I move or recolor the meme captions?
The meme layout places captions near the top and bottom of the image with white bold text and a dark outline. The text-size slider changes their size, but this page does not provide arbitrary positions, a color picker for the captions or individual font choices. Those constraints keep the layout simple. If you need a colored caption in another part of a photo, use Add Text to Image instead. If you need several independent text layers, use a more complete editor rather than trying to reproduce that layout with this two-caption tool.
How should I choose the source photo?
Choose an image whose subject remains clear when captions occupy the upper and lower areas. Faces, labels or important actions near those areas may be covered. A photo with some spare space can give the joke room to breathe, while a tightly cropped portrait may be difficult to use. You supply the photo yourself; the page does not include a template library, stock search or automatic background selection. If you need different framing, crop the original first and then bring the saved crop into the meme generator. Keep the uncropped source for later changes.
Why does the same caption look different on another device?
The lettering uses a system sans-serif font, so exact glyph shapes and emoji presentation can vary with the browser and operating system used to create it. The final downloaded image captures the rendered pixels from that editing session. A recipient sees those pixels rather than needing your font installed. Before sharing, inspect punctuation, unsupported characters and any emoji in the exported file. The editor does not promise matching typography across devices that independently recreate the meme, and it does not offer custom font installation or downloadable editable text layers.
Which format should I share?
PNG is useful when you want to preserve the rendered lettering without an additional lossy encoding step. JPG can be practical for photographic backgrounds, while WebP may suit a destination that accepts it. Check the receiving site or app because accepted file types and size limits vary. The tool produces a still image, not a video or animated meme. Changing the extension alone does not create animation. If you want to arrange several still images into an animation, use GIF Maker as a separate step and inspect the resulting timing and readability.
How do I check a meme before posting it?
Read the downloaded result at a small display size, not only in the large editing canvas. Confirm that the outline separates the text from the background and that neither caption hides an essential part of the picture. Check names, dates and spelling before sharing. Keep the original and caption wording if you expect revisions because the exported meme is flat. You are responsible for choosing an image you can use and considering how the caption changes its meaning.
