Canva Craft: How to Try It and Plan an Editable Design

Canva Craft is Canva Research’s own image model, available in Dream Lab and through Canva’s public API. Learn where to start, what editable output means and how to check a poster. Craft is not integrated into PromptToVisual.

Where can I use Canva Craft?

Canva’s October 22 announcement says Craft is available globally to all Canva users. Open Dream Lab from Canva’s navigation and select Craft. The announcement describes 2K image output, more than 30 preset aspect ratios plus custom ratios, and generated text in 55 languages. These are Canva’s published capabilities; we have not generated a Craft sample. Availability to all users does not establish unlimited free generations: check the allowance and charge shown in your Canva account.

An editable design is more than a generated image

Canva describes converting Craft images into editable layers with Magic Layers. Do not assume that a downloaded image is already a layered document or an SVG. Before committing to a workflow, check whether you can separately select the headline, background and main object, then reopen the exported file in your intended editor. If your printer requires vector paths or exact fonts, verify that specific export rather than relying on an editable-output headline.

Start with one poster and an explicit hierarchy

Our suggested first brief: create a square poster for a fictional weekend plant market. Use a warm cream background, one green plant in a terracotta pot, the exact heading “PLANT WEEKEND”, and one small line “SATURDAY 10–4”. Leave the bottom quarter clear for a venue. This is an original suggested prompt, not a generated example. Keeping the initial text short makes mistakes easier to spot before you add an address, sponsor marks or a second language.

Check the result before adapting it to other sizes

Read every character at export size. Check the pot silhouette, leaves, headline spacing and blank venue area. Then try a portrait version and confirm that the important content still fits inside the visible area. If exact wording is essential, add the final date and venue as editable text in your design tool. Keep the original export so that you can compare changes without judging from memory.

API access and the AI-assistant roadmap

Canva links a public API for developers. Its launch announcement labels Craft support through Canva MCP as “Coming Soon”; a roadmap is not a verified live assistant connection. This guide does not establish a per-image API price or account approval, and PromptToVisual has not connected either interface.

If you need an image in PromptToVisual today

Our FLUX 3 Image page offers a separate square text-to-image workflow at 5 credits, with a PNG result. It does not run Canva Craft or deliver Canva layers. Use it for a still-image concept when that output fits your job; use Canva’s own entry when you specifically need Craft. Review the selected model and cost before generating.
